Didi smiled. “The real treasure was the journey—and our memories.” The friends returned home with the book, reading its stories daily and cherishing their adventure and their friendship. When a group of men from Austin’s colony joined with Mexican soldiers to march on Fredonia, Haden and his brother fled to the United States. The unrest caused Mexican leaders to rethink their immigration policies.
