The United States helped South Vietnam, but North Vietnam won the war in 1975. Soon Vietnam was a united, Communist country. The Vietnam War had a huge cost in human lives. The aim of the movement which peaked in the 1960's was to ensure that the rights of all people are equally and are protected by the law.
